How to avoid the worst of it today

Walk the bridge before the city wakes. The top deck at nine is a private balcony over the whole amphitheatre of the town — by noon it is a procession. Start high, descend to the Ribeira, and let the day build behind you. Bridges and viewpoints have no gates — their only ticket is the hour you choose.
Book the one queue that matters. Lello's first slot if the bookshop calls you; otherwise spend that patience on a booked port-lodge tasting across the river — same hour, better reward.
Ride the river at the peak. When the Ribeira's arcades pack after lunch, the six-bridges boat puts the whole crowd at postcard distance for an hour.
Take sunset from the far bank. Jardim do Morro or a Gaia lodge terrace as the lights come on across the water — Porto's best hour, facing the town instead of queueing in it.
