Where are the crowds in Melbourne during the Festival?
The course is the crowd. Streets close from the start at Batman Avenue through the centre and out to the 'G, and the footpaths beside them fill with supporters. The stadium end is the busiest spot of the morning — every race finishes there.

The start at Batman Avenue and the finish at the MCG are fixed, and the streets between them close for the racing. The organiser publishes the closure map and the times on its own site before the weekend — check your route against it, and cross the course on foot rather than trying to drive around it.
