Stay north of Vondelpark on the Sunday morning and you will hardly meet it: the canal ring, the Jordaan and the old centre run as normal. If you want the museum quarter or the Amstel that day, check the organiser's closure times first. advice

Race weekend is two days: the shorter runs on Saturday, the full and half marathon on Sunday.
More than sixty thousand runners take part across the weekend.
Places sell out well ahead — the full and half marathon are already gone for 2026.
Reach the stadium and the cheering spots by bike or metro; each stretch of the course has a named nearest stop.
More than you'd think: the Rijksmuseum is open — open every day of the year including public holidays, 9am-5pm, per its own site — while the crowds are at the event.
Roads along the course close in stages through the weekend; the organiser publishes maps showing the closures and where through traffic stays possible.
The course passes under the Rijksmuseum and through the Vondelpark twice — that is where the cheering, and the crowds, concentrate.
By late afternoon the streets are handed back — and north of the museum quarter the city barely broke stride.

Where are the crowds in Amsterdam during the marathon?
The course starts and finishes at the Olympic Stadium, runs under the Rijksmuseum, through Vondelpark and out along the Amstel, so the south of the city and the river are where the closures and the crowds sit. The canal belt north of Vondelpark stays open and normal all morning.
Road closures: what closes and when the streets reopen
The organiser publishes the course map and the road-closure times on its own site before race week. Check your street and your route to the station against it, and plan to cross the course on foot rather than by car that morning.
