Museum of Broken Relationships at opening or at dinnertime
The Museum of Broken Relationships is Zagreb's one queue. Its rooms are small, so timing matters, and rainy days and weekends bring lines.
Go in the opening hour or take a dinnertime slot. If there is a wait, the Mestrovic atelier next door fills it. For the Upper Town, book the walking tour for the morning.
Dolac before noon, the Upper Town in the morning
The Dolac market runs on morning trade: full by 10, folded away by mid-afternoon. The Upper Town's lanes and the Stone Gate's candle shrine are for the morning; the railing at St Mark's has its brief crowd of phones at midday. Tkalciceva's terraces are packed on Saturday late morning.
Go to Dolac before noon, hungry. Walk the Upper Town lanes in the morning and stay for the noon cannon from Lotrscak's tower. The Mimara and the Arts and Crafts museum fill the rainy hours.
Pick a plan for a Busy day in Zagreb

Avoid July and August if you can. For the Advent market with fewer people, pick one of its Calm or Lively days on the day pages; November itself is Calm throughout.

Zagreb's crowd keeps to Tkalciceva's terraces on Saturday late morning and the railing at St Mark's at midday. The Green Horseshoe's park squares, the Botanical Garden at its southern corner, Mirogoj and Jarun lake, which you reach by tram, stay quiet.
Stay along the Green Horseshoe in the Lower Town, or near Jarun lake, a tram ride out. The city page names the quiet places and links to hotels there.
Dolac hungry before noon, coffee off the Saturday spica
The spica is the Saturday coffee hour: Tkalciceva's terraces are packed in the late morning, by design. Dolac, the red-umbrella market above the square, is full by 10 and at its fullest on Saturday; by mid-afternoon it is folded away.
Go to Dolac before noon, hungry; take Saturday for the full market. For coffee on Tkalciceva, pick a weekday or a Saturday afternoon rather than the late morning.
Pack an umbrella; the rain brings museum queues
In September Zagreb has about 23 °C by day and rain on about 9 days. Rainy days bring queues to the Museum of Broken Relationships, and the tips above ask for early mornings and a lot of walking.
Bring shoes you can walk in for hours, a charged phone or power bank for tickets and maps, and a compact umbrella. On a rainy day, take the Mimara or the Arts and Crafts museum instead of the queue.
