See the Handelskade before 10:00
The painted waterfront and the swinging pontoon bridge are every visitor's first hour in Willemstad. On ship days the quay is slow going from 10:00 to 15:00. The morning light shows the gables best, and the bridge openings are free to watch.
Come before 10:00. When the Queen Emma bridge swings open, the free ferry runs across the harbour; ride it once on purpose. A guided walk of the old town is on the tickets page.
Coves before 10:30, reefs early, Pietermaai at night
The west coast coves, from Cas Abao to Playa Kenepa, are small. The ledge at Kenepa Grandi fills by late morning on cruise days and weekends. The reef starts at the shoreline; the shore entries and the Tugboat wreck are for the morning. Pietermaai is liveliest at its dinner hour.
Be at the named coves in the first hours, or take the fishermen's beaches between them. Snorkel in the morning; the shallow Tugboat wreck is the classic. Walk Otrobanda's murals by day and Pietermaai's in the evening.

Pietermaai, the restored quarter with the murals, is liveliest at its dinner hour, with music and dinner under the restored facades. It is strolled, never jammed.
Eat in Pietermaai in the evening. By day, walk the alleys of Otrobanda with ordinary care, as you would in any town.
