Book the Oceanografic for opening or after three
The Oceanografic and the science museum take school groups and families from mid-morning to early afternoon on weekdays in term. The buildings of the City of Arts and Sciences around them are free to walk through and never have a line.
Book Oceanografic entry for the first hour of the day, or go after three. Come back to the complex at dusk, when the pools reflect the lights. That part costs nothing.
Market in the morning, towers before sunset
The aisles of the Central Market are the tightest place in the old town, and only in the morning. On Sunday the market is closed. The Lonja is quiet before noon. The Miguelete tower has a line you can judge from the square. Malvarrosa beach fills on summer weekends.
Do the market first and hungry, the Lonja before noon, and the Miguelete tower when the line looks short. Take the beach on a weekday morning. Climb a tower in El Carmen before sunset, then stay for the lanes.

Valencia's crowd keeps to the aisles of the Central Market in the morning, the Oceanografic from mid-morning, the bar lanes of El Carmen at night and Malvarrosa beach on summer weekends. The Turia gardens, the Cabanyal behind the beach and the Albufera lagoon stay quiet.
Stay a few stops from the centre, near one of the quiet places. The Valencia page names them and links to hotels there.
Eat before the market fills, rice out of town
The Central Market is a food market, and its aisles are dense every morning it opens. On Sunday it is closed, and half the old town pattern closes with it. A beachfront table for paella on Sunday needs booking ahead. The Albufera lagoon south of the city is rice country.
Shop or eat at the Central Market first thing, and not on a Sunday. Book a beachfront table ahead if you want paella for Sunday lunch. For rice at the source, go out to the Albufera lagoon.
Pack for 28 °C and long park walks
