Walk the old town walls, any day, no ticket
Southampton has no sight with a line. The medieval walls thread through the modern city, and you walk them almost alone on any day, cruise Saturdays included. The walk from the Bargate to the Westgate is the best free hour in the city.
Walk the walls whenever you like; no timing is needed. Add the Tudor House and St Michael's Square, the old town's prettiest corner, on the same walk. For a booked day out, the New Forest tour is on the tickets page.
SeaCity after noon, the waterfront at sailaway hour
On cruise mornings the coach groups pass through the SeaCity Museum before noon; early afternoon is its quiet time. At Ocean Village the liners dwarf the quarter on turnaround days. The sailaway hour, in the late afternoon, is the free spectacle: horns, tugs and a wall of balconies sliding past.
