Book the cathedral for the first hour
La Seu is the island's one steady line, and cruise mornings double it. The first hour is the time for the light through the east rose window. The view of the cathedral from the seafront costs nothing at any hour.
Book the cathedral entry before you travel and take the opening slot. On a ship day, do not put La Seu in the late morning.
Old town and coves before 10:30, or after 17:00
The lanes between the cathedral and Placa Major carry every visitor in town, worst in the late morning on ship days. The famous coves are small and full by 11:00 in summer. The Soller train fills its benches at midday in season; the early departures have room.
Walk the old town lanes early or evening, and look into every open patio doorway. Take the coves at opening or from 17:00; at Es Trenc, walk further along the sand than feels necessary. Take the first Soller train out, and the bus back.

Palma's crowd keeps to the cathedral quarter on cruise mornings, the famous coves in high summer and the Soller train at midday. Bellver's pinewood above the bay, the Tramuntana villages of Fornalutx, Orient and Banyalbufar, and the far reaches of Es Trenc stay quiet.

Pack for sun and 10 rain days
