Why it works. The Scream draws a steady line in both the Munch Museum and the National Museum. Both run on timed tickets, which keep the rooms bearable. Weekend middays are the fullest. On the fjord front, the saunas and swim spots are booked out on winter weekends.
Do this. Book a weekday opening slot before you travel. In the Munch Museum, keep climbing: the upper floors of the tower empty out as you go up. Book the sauna ahead for a winter weekend.

Opera roof at sunset, Bygdoy by the morning ferry
Why it works. The Opera roof is shoulder to shoulder only at summer sunsets. In Frogner Park the coach groups gather at the Monolith and the Angry Boy at midday; the morning light on the bridge figures is best. The Bygdoy ferry has lines at the city pier at midday in summer.
Do this. Walk the Opera roof at sunset. Take the morning ferry to Bygdoy, see the Fram first; end the day on the peninsula's beaches if the sun holds. On a clear day take metro line 1 to Holmenkollen, climb the tower, walk to a forest lake.
