Old town tour before 10:00 or after 15:00
Bay Street's six blocks between the pier and the pink Parliament take every ship's walking crowd at once, from 09:30 to 15:00 on ship days. The guided loops all pass the 66 steps of the Queen's Staircase mid-morning.
Book an old town walking tour that starts before 10:00 or after 15:00. On a multi-ship day, do the staircase and Fort Fincastle in those hours. The Straw Market bargains best in the late afternoon.
Beaches by ship count, boats on the first departure
Junkanoo Beach, a walk from the port, fills as the piers do. On Paradise Island, Cabbage Beach opens up the further you walk from the towers. The boat trips to the reefs, the swimming pigs and the out islands load each morning, with limited places, seas permitting.
On a heavy ship day, walk or ride west to Goodman's Bay and beyond. For Cabbage Beach, take the morning water taxi, walk east past the vendors and settle where the loungers stop. Book boat trips ahead and take the earliest departure.

Fish Fry at a late lunch on a weekday
The Fish Fry at Arawak Cay is a row of conch stalls. Sunday afternoons and cruise-ship lunch hours pack the best-known stalls, while the stalls next to them stay easy.
Go for a late lunch on a weekday and have the conch salad made in front of you. If the best-known stall has a line, take the one next door.
Pack for heat, rain and the water
