Griffith: weekday morning, or hike up for sunset
Griffith Observatory has the biggest crowd in Los Angeles. The terraces gather the whole city at sunset, and the real line is the parking: by late afternoon the cars back down the hill. The jam lasts the two hours around sunset.
Drive up on a weekday morning, when the terraces and telescopes are quiet. Or hike up for sunset and walk down after dark; a guided hike is the ticket for that.
Getty at opening, studio tour booked, the Broad reserved
The Getty Center absorbs its visitors; reserve the parking slot and go at opening or in the late afternoon. The studio tours run on booked trams and sell their mornings first. The Broad's free tickets go weeks ahead, and its standby line wraps the block most days. Hollywood's star blocks are worst at midday.
Book the studio tour and give Hollywood Boulevard twenty minutes. Reserve the Broad, or join the standby line at opening. Bike the strand between Santa Monica and Venice in the morning; the Venice boardwalk is dense on weekend afternoons.
Give a Busy day in Los Angeles a plan

Downtown, the counters of Grand Central market take everyone, while the Broad next to it has a standby line that wraps the block most days.

Pack for heat, a hike and long distances
