Buy the trail ticket and walk at first light
The Blue Path sections along the coast are ticketed, open only in season, and single file at peak hours. The sanctuary trails higher up are free, harder and far emptier.
Check which sections are open before you build a day on them. Walk the coast path in the first hours of light, or take the high routes. Or book a guided coastal hike.
The villages before 10:00 or after 17:00
Five tiny stations on one train line carry every visitor to the five villages. From 10:00 to 17:00 the platforms, trains and lanes run full both ways. Monterosso and Vernazza take the worst of it; Vernazza's harbour square is full by midday in season.
Start early with the farthest village and work back. Take a morning boat: the water is calmer. Corniglia's 380 steps make it the quietest village to enter. After 17:00 the lanes empty again.

Stay in La Spezia and ride out early, or stay in Corniglia or Portovenere. The city page names the quiet places and links to hotels there.
Breakfast in Vernazza, dinner after the day visitors
