How to avoid crowds in Ibiza

Tip 1

Come in February

Why it works. Ibiza is Calm on almost every day from November to March. February is the pick: Calm on all 28 days, about 16 °C by day and rain on about 2 days. January is Calm on all 31 days too, but cooler, about 15 °C.

Do this. Pick your dates from Ibiza's year map. Take February. In summer, June has the fewest Busy or Packed days: 20 out of 30. July and August are Busy or Packed on every day.

Tip 2

Ibiza: trade Wed 21 Oct for Tue 20 Oct

Why it works. In Ibiza one day makes a difference. Tuesday 8 September 2026 is Packed, with a Spanish public holiday and German school holidays behind it. Wednesday 9 September, the next day, is Busy, one step down.

Do this. Wed 21 Oct is Busy in Ibiza; Tue 20 Oct is Lively. Move the visit by a day and the same city is quieter.

Tip 3

In Ibiza, take June or October, not July

Why it works. July and August are Busy or Packed on every day: 16 Packed days in July, 18 in August. June has 20 Busy or Packed days out of 30. October has 11 out of 31, and no Packed days at all.

Do this. If summer is the only time you can travel, book June. For fewer people still, take October: Busy on 11 days, never Packed. The month pages show each month week by week.

Tip 4

Ibiza fills with the German and Dutch school holidays

Why it works. Ibiza is busy when its visitors are on holiday. German school holidays are a driver on 199 days of the year, Dutch school holidays on 132. Spanish public holidays count on 29 days, German public holidays on 19, Italian on 14, British on 13 and Dutch on 11.

Tip 6

Coves before 11:00, Es Vedra in the late afternoon

Why it works. The famous calas are full by noon in season, and the car parks close. Cala Comte draws a gathering at sunset every evening. At Es Vedra, cars and drums gather at the cliff viewpoints each dusk; the late afternoon light is nearly as good, with far fewer people. Day boats to Formentera fill in August.

Do this. Go to the coves in the morning, always. See Es Vedra in the late afternoon rather than at sunset. For Formentera, take the first ferry, rent a bike or scooter at the port, and be at Ses Illetes before the day boats arrive.

Give a Busy day in Ibiza a plan

Why it works. On a Busy day in Ibiza the order of your day counts. Every Busy or Packed day page offers three plans. Each plan lists the tickets it needs and the hours to go.

Do this. Choose One day, the big sights if you have one day. Choose Start early, one ticket if you want to spend little. Choose The quiet side if you want to be away from the crowd altogether.

Tip 8

Check the ship days: 21 in July alone

Why it works. Ibiza is a cruise port. Ships call on 125 days in the coming year. July has 21 call days, June 20, August 19 and May 17. There are no calls in January or February. Cruise afternoons are when Dalt Vila's ramp lanes are tightest.

Do this. Before you book, open the ships page for your dates. On a ship day, do Dalt Vila before 11:00 and keep the afternoon for the rural north.

Tip 9

Sleep near the rural north

Why it works. Ibiza's crowd keeps to the famous calas at midday, Dalt Vila's drawbridge and ramp before dinner, and Es Vedra's viewpoints at sunset. The rural north, with Santa Gertrudis, San Juan and the red-dirt lanes between them, stays calm. So do Formentera's long edges: Ses Illetes' far spit and the south beaches.

Do this. Stay a few stops from the centre, near one of the quiet places. Salinas' far end thins out with every hundred metres south. The city page names the quiet places and links to hotels there.

Tip 10

Market mornings in the north; book the Comte terrace

Why it works. The island's north keeps its own calendar: Santa Gertrudis's cafe square, the Las Dalias market days and San Juan's Sunday scene. At Cala Comte the sunset draws a gathering every evening. If you want to be there for it, arrive very early or book the restaurant terrace.

Do this. Check which day the market is on and build a slow loop of the north around it. For a sunset dinner at Cala Comte, book the restaurant terrace ahead or arrive very early.

Tip 11

Pack for sun and early ferries

Why it works. In September Ibiza has about 28 °C by day and rain on about 7 days. The tips above ask for early mornings at the coves, a first ferry and walking on the walls.

Do this. Bring shoes you can walk in for hours, a charged phone for tickets and maps, and a water bottle. An umbrella can stay at home.
