The Dim River and Dim Cave lie 10 minutes into the hills. Platforms stand over cold running water, cooler than the beach at noon. They are busiest with local families on summer weekends. The best time is midday on a weekday, the hours when the coast is at its hottest.

Cable car first thing, harbor after sunset

The cable car and the summit viewpoints have the one real wait in town, worst from 11:00 to 15:00 in season. Cleopatra Beach fills near the loungers by late morning. Damlatas Cave has a narrow entrance: when a group is in, you wait, and midday is the worst time.

Ride the cable car up first thing, or walk the old path in the early evening. See Damlatas Cave at opening, then swim at Cleopatra Beach before 10:00 or after 17:00. Visit Kizil Kule early and keep the harbor for the evening.

Sleep on the quiet side of Alanya

Alanya's crowd keeps to the cable car, the harbor promenade from sunset and the bazaar lanes at midday. Tophane and the old quarter inside the walls, the far ends of Cleopatra Beach and the Dim valley stay quiet.

Lunch on the river, the bazaar outside midday

The bazaar lanes are slow and hot at midday, and at their most crowded when tour groups pass through. The Dim River platforms stand over cold running water, 10 minutes into the hills. They are busiest with local families on summer weekends.

On a hot day, have lunch on the water at the Dim River, on a weekday. Walk the bazaar in the morning or in the evening.

Pack for heat and early starts
