Avoid Crowds in Dubrovnik by avoiding peak season. The Croatian coastal town is a popular destination all year round but can feel even more crowded when cruise ships are in town. With a population of about 40,000, crowds are heavily impacted by cruise ships that come ashore. On busy days, cruise ships can offload over 8,000 passengers. Although this is much less than the amounts of passengers that Barcelona welcomes on an average day, it will impact the city of Dubrovnik way more. The size of the city and its infrastructure are not able to handle these massive crowds. Therefore, the best time to travel is arguably Spring or Autumn, but only when the cruise ships are exploring other parts of the Adriatic Sea. To see what’s going on, the city has a useful website in English where you can see what’s happening in this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
