Amsterdam, Netherlands - August 15

Amsterdam is a victim of its own success. In the past decennia, the city has successfully marketed itself to tourists around the globe. The marketing efforts have been highly successful, and the city is now a must see on many European travel itineraries. The city is now fighting back trying to limit the number of tourists in the city. The municipality tries to spread tourists over time and promote activities away from its city center. For example, by encouraging tourists to take a tour to Volendam and Marken. In another effort the city tries to reduce the number of cruise passengers in the city.

Amsterdam is busiest in summer. The months of July and August see the largest crowds. Spring is arguably the best time to visit as the weather is usually good and the city isn’t yet too busy. Except for King’s Day when the city is more crowded than on any other day. Also read our tips to avoid crowds in Amsterdam.

We advise you to plan ahead and buy tickets in advance, you can find skip the line tickets here.
