Ranked as the sixth busiest cruise port of Europe, Southampton is expected to welcome over 1.3 million cruise passengers in 2020. Despite an increase of 4 percent measured in arriving cruise passengers (based on full capacity), the English town’s position on our list of busiest cruise ports in Europe remained unchanged.



Southampton has cruise traffic all year round. Peak season starts in April and ends in October. The busiest month of the year in Southampton is September with almost 200,000 cruise passengers. Other very busy months are May and August. August 1 is the busiest day of the year as 5 large cruise ship bring in a total of 20,896 cruise passengers.

There will be 38 days where Southampton will see more than 10,000 arriving cruise passengers. As Southampton usually deals with both arriving and departing cruise passengers, these days will be extremely busy. The biggest ship departing from Southampton is P&O’s MS Iona with a maximum capacity of 6,600 cruise passengers. Another noteworthy ship is the Carnival Mardi Gras. The brand new Carnival ship is expected to start sailing in 2020 and will call upon Southampton once on September 9.
